Early Life and Career
At the start of his career, Alexander Romanov connected with Chelsea Eduard, a Muay Thai coach, who introduced him to the sport of mixed martial arts and continues to coach him until now.
Romanov was highly successful in his native Moldova, compiling an undefeated record of 11 wins. He was the heavyweight champion of the Eagles Fighting Championship.
Alexander Romanov’s Career in UFC
Alexander Romanov signed with the UFC on October 3, 2019, and was originally set to make his debut against Raphael Pessoa on April 25, 2020, however, the event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He finally made his UFC debut on September 12, 2020, at UFC Fight Night: Waterson vs. Hill and defeated Roque Martinez via arm-triangle choke in the second round.
On April 17, 2021, at UFC on ESPN: Whittaker vs. Gastelum, Romanov faced Juan Espino, but due to a knee to the groin by Espino, Romanov was unable to continue and was declared the winner via a technical split decision.
Romanov's next fight was against Jared Vanderaa on October 9, 2021, at UFC Fight Night: Dern vs. Rodriguez, which he won via technical knockout in the second round.
On August 20, 2022, at UFC 278, Romanov lost to Marcin Tybura in a controversial majority decision.
