ABOUT

Joe Burns Biography

Joseph Anthony Burns or Joe Burns is an Australian top order right-handed batsman who was born on September 6, 1989, in Queensland, Australia.

Background

Joe had a wonderful debut in Sheffield Shield against South Australia where he was playing for Queensland and scored a century. He gradually grew as a batsman and this earned him a call for Australia A team.

There also, he scored a hundred and soon after that he was named Bradman Young Cricketer of the Year and a call for the national team was not far away.

Debut

After all his performances, Burns made his international debut in a Boxing Day Test against India at the MCG in 2014. He batted at the middle order but could not manage to score big there.

However, in the next match he scored fifties in both the innings. Unlike his test debut, his ODI debut in 2015 was quite a good one which was against Ireland where he scored a half century.

Rise to Glory

Burns had an on and off career right from the beginning but his first century came against New Zealand at the Gabba. His career best knocks also came against New Zealand where he scored massive 170 runs in Christchurch, New Zealand.

Low Points

Later in 2016, when Burns was not able to score well in both the matches in a series against Sri Lanka, he was axed from the team. Also, with Usman Khawaja performing consistently, Australia could find an alternative to Joe.

Club Career

He was top scorer of Brisbane Heat when they defeated Perth Scorchers in the 2012-13 Big Bash League season finale. Joe’s performances also earned him a contract for Leicester Shire as their former overseas player Ramnaresh Sarwan was injured.

For Queensland, he scored his maiden double century against South Australia in the last (2017-18) Sheffield Shield.

Records

Joe Burns is the second highest run getter for his BBL franchise, Brisbane Heat. He has scored a total of 693 runs across four years with a decent average of 29.
