Ryan McDonagh is a defenseman and alternate captain for the Tampa Bay Lightning in the National Hockey League (NHL), as of April 2025. He was drafted 12th overall by Montreal Canadiens in the first round of the 2007 NHL entry draft. He has represented the New York Rangers and Nashville Predators in the NHL in the past. He was re-acquired by the Lightning on May 21, 2024.

McDonagh, who previously played for the Tampa Bay Lightning from 2018 to 2022, earned the Minnesota Mr. Hockey award in 2007 during his prep career at Cretin-Derham Hall in Saint Paul, Minnesota, United States. He played college hockey for the Badgers at University of Wisconsin–Madison. He won back-to-back Stanley Cups with the Lightning in 2020 and 2021 before spending two seasons with the Predators.
