Ryan McDonagh is an American ice hockey defenseman and alternate captain for the Tampa Bay Lightning in the NHL. He played college hockey for the University of Wisconsin before being traded to the Nashville Predators. He served as captain of the Rangers from 2014 to 2018 and won two Stanley Cups with the Lightning in 2020 and 2021. After a stint with the Nashville Predators, McDonagh returned to the Lightning in 2024.

McDonagh had a successful junior career, winning the Minnesota Mr. Hockey award in 2007 and representing the U.S. at international tournaments. In the NHL, he earned MVP honors and led his team to the 2014 Stanley Cup Finals for the Rangers. He was named the captain in 2014.
