The Toronto Tempo is a women's professional basketball team based in Toronto, Canada, and it will enter the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) as its 14th member in 2026. The team will compete in the Eastern Conference, becoming the league's first franchise outside the United States and first in Canada.

Toronto Tempo History
The process of obtaining a WNBA team for Toronto started in May 2023 when a sold-out exhibition between the Minnesota Lynx and Chicago Sky at Scotiabank Arena sparked serious interest. The full arena showcased the city's preparedness for women's basketball. On May 10, 2024, reports emerged claiming that the WNBA and Kilmer Group were in talks regarding setting up a franchise in Toronto. The Toronto Tempo was formally unveiled as the WNBA's 14th team on May 23, 2024, and became the league's first expansion beyond the United States.
In December 2024, the name of the team was announced following a public campaign which saw more than 10,000 submissions. In February 2025, Monica Wright Rogers was appointed as the first general manager of the Toronto Tempo.
Toronto Tempo Owners
The Toronto Tempo is owned by Kilmer Sports Ventures, which is led by Canadian businessman Larry Tanenbaum, who paid a $50 million expansion fee. The Tempo is Tanenbaum's first majority ownership of a professional team, as the Canadian billionaire is a minority owner of the Toronto Raptors, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Toronto FC.
American tennis icon Serena Williams acquired a minority ownership stake in the Toronto franchise in April 2024. She was officially announced as a new co-owner of the team on March 3, 2025.
Toronto Tempo Logo and Jersey
The Toronto Tempo unveiled its name and logo in December 2024. The name "Tempo" reflects the rhythm and pace of both the city and the game of basketball. The logo features a light blue, italicized "T" within a black circle, with six lines extending from the left side of the letter. These lines symbolize the five players on the court and the fans. The design incorporates sharp angles and curves to represent the dynamic nature of both the team and the game, according to the official website of Toronto Tempo.
The Tempo’s jerseys have yet to be introduced, as of May 2025.
Toronto Tempo Home Stadium
The Toronto Tempo will host games at Coca-Cola Coliseum, a multipurpose facility that seats roughly 8,500. Initially constructed in 1921 for the Canadian National Exhibition and the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair, the Coca-Cola Coliseum has been a part of the Enercare Centre complex since 1997. The Coca-Cola Coliseum is also the home of the Toronto Marlies, the Toronto Maple Leafs' American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate.
