Is Iyo Sky related to Asuka?

Asuka and IYO SKY are one of the most decorated and highly talented professional wrestlers in the WWE women’s division. Both of them are from Japan and had multiple confrontations and exchange of words in recent times. Since they interact in Japanese, the conversation between them has always been a talking point and fans are excited to know what they shout upon. Their meets and greets, interactions, and the wrestling gear looks similar to each other, which made a lot of people think are they related to each other in any way? Is IYO SKY related to Asuka?

In simple words, No! Asuka and IYO SKY are not related to each other. They are not sisters, cousins or any relation by blood and family. However both have a long history of relationship between them through wrestling. IYO and Asuka not only worked for WWE, they had worked for a Japanese Independent Pro-Wrestling in the past. Where Asuka under the name Kana was in a trio-wrestling stable named “Triple Tails” with Io Shirai (IYO SKY) and her sister Mio Shirai. Asuka’s alliance with the Shirai sisters was a dominant stable there, however Asuka moved to WWE soon before IYO. Fans expected IYO to debut in WWE, as she was considered as one of the talented female wrestlers. Io then joined NXT and became the NXT Women’s Champion with her high flying abilities and top class wrestling skills.

In July 2020, when Asuka was the Raw Women’s Champion, Sasha Banks and Bayley were on a hunt for championships in every roster. Sasha Banks and Bayley were the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions, where Bayley also had the SmackDown Women’s Championship. Sasha challenged Asuka for the Raw Women’s Championship, meanwhile Sasha walked into NXT and challenged Io Shirai for the NXT Women’s Championship. They had a match at The Great American Bash, where Asuka stood on Io Shirai’s corner helping her to retain the championship, by spraying the green mist on Sasha Banks’ face. Io in an interview, stated that she wished to join hands with Asuka on the main roster naming themselves as “Twin Tails”, as her sister Mio was retired from wrestling and not in WWE.

Times changed and now, both work on the SmackDown brand, where Asuka is being the WWE Women’s Champion and IYO SKY is rooting her way to challenge Asuka for the title.
