David Ray Roberts, popularly known as “Doc”, is a former center fielder and present manager for the Los Angeles Dodgers in Major League Baseball (MLB). He began his baseball career playing for teams such as the Detroit Tigers (minor league), Cleveland Indians, Los Angeles Dodgers, Boston Red Sox, San Diego Padres, and San Francisco Giants. He won the World Series title thrice, in 2004 as an MLB player and in 2020 and 2024 as a manager.

Originally from Naha, Okinawa, Japan, Dave Roberts has scored 23 home runs with 213 RBIs throughout her playing career. Following his retirement as a player, he served as a studio analyst and color commentator for NESN's Boston Red Sox coverage and as a Special Assistant to Baseball Operations for the San Diego Padres. He started his managing career with the Padres and was declared the NL Manager of the Year in 2016.

Eiko Roberts is the mother of Dave Roberts. She is Japanese and is a native of Okinawa, where she met her future husband. Unfortunately, she suffers from Parkinson’s disease and receives help from the Parkinson's Association of San Diego. She undergoes exercise classes at Tri-City Wellness and Fitness Center in Carlsbad, which she states has been helping her with her illness. However, she has acknowledged that since her husband passed away, her son has been her biggest source of strength, and they chat every day.

Dave Roberts’ Father

The late Waymon Roberts was the father of Dave Roberts. Being from Texas, United States, he joined the United States Marine Corps. and was stationed in Japan, where he met his future wife. His son, Dave Roberts, was also born in Japan. He served as the Master Gunnery Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps while also raising his son and daughter with his wife, Eiko Roberts. He retired from the army in 1998. Unfortunately, Waymon Roberts passed away in March 2017 due to health complications at the age of 68 years.
