LoanDepot Park, previously known as Marlins Park, is the official stadium for the Miami Marlins in Major League Baseball (MLB). It is present in Miami, Florida, United States. The team has been playing in this stadium since 2012.

LoanDepot Park’s History/ LoanDepot Park Construction and Cost

The Florida Marlins earlier had the Hard Rock Stadium as their home stadium. However, despite being a multi-purpose stadium, it was best suited for football and despite renovations, was not favorable for baseball. The Florida Marlins team wanted a stadium with a retractable roof to protect their fans and players from the weather. The Miami Orange Bowl was selected as the place for constructing the new stadium. Although the Miami residents initially rejected the ideal of construction of the stadium through tax money, they later started supporting it. Accordingly, the financial plan for the new stadium was revealed in 2005. However, the Florida legislature rejected the Florida Marlins’ request of funding the stadium construction. As a result the team decided to relocate to another destination. Eventually, the Florida officials decided to approve the construction of the stadium after the MLB President and COO threatened that the Florida Marlins were about to lose their baseball stadium unless a new one was constructed. Accordingly, the Miami Orange Bowl was demolished in 2008 and the construction started in July 2009. The park was opened to the public on March 5, 2012 and the first MLB game was played on April 4, 2012. The team also changed its name from Florida Marlins to Miami Marlins. LoanDepot, a mortgage company based in California purchased the naming rights on March 31, 2021 for an undisclosed amount. Thus, the stadium was renamed LoanDepot Park.

LoanDepot Park is one of the most admired parks in MLB with its architectural designs and modern styles. It is one of the environment friendly stadiums in the league. The design of the park is based on the modern Miami culture. It is strong enough to resist hurricanes. The retractable roof is made of steel and is 8,300 tons and can be opened and closed in 15 minutes. The four gigantic columns supporting the retractable roof can be lighted to create an illusion at the park. This adds to the beauty of the park.

The stadium has ACs that help to keep the fans cool from the hot climate of the state. There are aquatic home plates that provide a backstop on both sides of the home plate. The left center field wall has a colorful sculpture made by Red Grooms. Depicting seagulls, palm trees, flamingoes and marlins, all of which are symbols of Florida. There is also an exciting place for children to play along.

The field is made up of Shaw Sports B1K. The left field is 344 feet and the left center power alley is 386 feet. The right field is 335 feet and the right center power alley is 387 feet. The center field is 400 feet.

The stadium was constructed by Populous. The construction cost $634 million in 2012, which was equal to $808 million as of 2022. It has been a LEED-certified green park since its opening in 2012.
