Patrick Thomas Murphy is the manager of the Milwaukee Brewers as of May 2025 and has been managing in Major League Baseball (MLB) since 2015. Murphy played college baseball for Florida Atlantic University as a catcher, infielder, and occasionally as a pitcher. He was drafted in the minor leagues for the San Diego Padres and San Francisco Giants for four years after graduation.
Following his playing career, he turned to coaching college baseball teams, including the Notre Dame Fighting Irish from 1988 to 1994 and then the Arizona State Sun Devils from 1995 to 2009. In 2010, Murphy was hired by the San Diego Padres as the Special Assistant to Baseball Operations. In this role, he managed minor league teams for the Padres and also acted as the interim manager of the Padres in 2015. Between 2016 and 2023, he served as the bench coach for the Milwaukee Brewers and was eventually promoted to the role of manager following the departure of Craig Counsell after the 2023 season.
