Activision has just released the official season 4 launch trailer for Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone. While a character resembling Captain John "Soap" MacTavish appears in it, potentially hinting at the character's return, he is not alive. Season 4 is set to arrive on May 29, 2024, and is teasing a lot from the OG Modern Warfare 3 released back in 2011.

Again, the most compelling part of the trailer is the apparent resurrection of Soap, a beloved character in the Modern Warfare franchise. This article explores more about the development.

While the Season 4 trailer showcases new weapons, maps, and gameplay mechanics throughout its almost one-minute span, the most jaw-dropping moment comes towards the end when a character bearing an uncanny resemblance to Soap is shown.

While the developers have been known to include Easter eggs in launch materials like this in the past, previous updates and social media posts hinted at Soap’s return.

There were endless possibilities of how Soap could be alive in the game, like the DNA emoji in the Season 4 artwork justifying a possible cloning storyline. This implied that Soap died in a tunnel in the MW3 campaign, and various technological advances enabled his cloning and presence in Modern Warfare 3's Zombies plot.

The scenes featured could have been a flashback or simulation, providing a way for players to relive iconic Soap moments in the franchise.

That said, Soap isn't alive in the game's storyline. Instead, he will appear along with two new mysterious operators, Hammer and Void, in a packed Season 4 Battle Pass.

The operators featured in Call of Duty's promotional art are usually characters included in the seasonal Battle Pass. This suggests that players can likely expect to unlock this new version of Soap when Season 4 arrives.
