The Iowa Hawkeyes football team is from the University of Iowa in the NCAA Division I collegiate football scene. Now a part of the West Division of the Big Ten Conference, they had previously been a part of the Western Conference as well as the Missouri Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Association. The home stadium of the team is in Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City, Iowa, United States.

In 1958, the Iowa Hawkeyes team, under coach Forest Evashevski, represented the Big Ten Conference and won it with a record of 5-1-0. They then proceeded to play in the Rose Bowl on January 1, 1959 against the California Golden Bears.


The Hawkeyes were won the game by 18 points. During the course of the game, Randy Duncan in the first quarter, Jeff Langston and Don Horn in the second quarter, Willie Fleming and Bob Jeter in the third quarter and Willie Fleming again in the fourth quarter, helped the Hawkeyes beat the Golden Bears 38-12.


Consequently, the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) declared the Iowa Hawkeyes as the National Champion and awarded them the Grantland Rice Award.
