Jay Norvell is the head coach of the Colorado State Rams, representing Colorado State University, as of 2024. Hailing from Madison, Wisconsin, Norvell was a former football player, playing at the University of Iowa from 1982 to 1985. Professionally, Norvell played as an outside linebacker for the Chicago Bears in the NFL. With the Bears, he played a solitary season in 1987 as a practice and replacement player.

Norvell's career as a coach kicked off in 1986 at his alma mater Iowa as their graduate assistant. He led several positions at Northern Iowa, Wisconsin, and Iowa State as their assistant coach from 1988 to 2001. Norvell also had stints with several NFL franchises as their assistant coach, namely with the Indianapolis Colts and Oakland Raiders from 2002 to 2003. He then went back to college football when he was announced as the offensive coordinator at the University of Nebraska in 2004.

Following his time at Oklahoma, Jay was named as the wide receivers coach at the University of Texas. He became the wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator at Arizona State before he joined Nevada in 2017, grabbing his first-ever head coaching job. In 2018, Nevada went 8-5 which also included a 16–13 overtime victory in the 2018 Arizona Bowl over Arkansas State. In December 2021, Jay was hired by Colorado State as their 24th head coach.
