Shilo Sanders is a collegiate football safety for the Colorado Buffaloes, representing the University of Colorado Boulder in the Big 12 Conference. Sanders attended Trinity Christian High School in Texas, where he played as a cornerback. During his senior year, he contributed to his team's perfect 14-0 season and a TAPPS Division II state championship in 2018. His high school statistics included 24 tackles, five interceptions, and recorded 13 receptions for 199 yards and three touchdowns on the offensive front. For his performance, he was named the Under Armour All-American in 2018 and ranked as the No. 62 cornerback in the nation by 247Sports. Sanders began his college football career at the University of South Carolina and played for the Gamecocks from 2019-2020. In his freshman season, he recorded two tackles and a fumble recovery. Over his two seasons at South Carolina, he accumulated 32 tackles, one for a loss, and a pass deflection.

According to Jackson State's official website, Sanders entered the NCAA transfer portal after the 2020 season and transferred to Jackson State University in 2021. During his time there, he played under the guidance of his father, Deion Sanders, and recorded 39 tackles, and four interceptions, and was named Second Team All-SWAC (Southwestern Athletic Conference). In 2022 he suffered from an ACL injury, limiting him to seven games where he tallied 20 tackles and one interception. Despite the setback, Sanders helped lead Jackson State to consecutive SWAC titles and participated in the Cricket Celebration Bowl in both 2021 and 2022. Sanders transferred to the University of Colorado in 2023, reuniting with his brother, quarterback Shedeur Sanders, and his father, Deion Sanders. He led the Buffaloes in tackles with 70 and tied for the Pac-12 lead in solo tackles. His performance included a standout moment where he returned an interception for an 80-yard touchdown against Colorado State, earning him Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week honors, as of December 2024.
