James Turner is a college football placekicker who is a free agent, as of 2024. Turner began his collegiate career with the Louisville Cardinals, where he played from 2019 to 2022. Turner played a crucial role in Louisville's 2019 Music City Bowl victory, where he recovered a fumble at the opposing 33-yard line.

In 2023, James Turner transferred to the Michigan Wolverines, where he played one season and was voted second-team All-Big Ten. His contributions helped lead the Wolverines to a national championship victory in 2023.

Following the 2024 NFL Draft, Turner signed with the Detroit Lions as an undrafted free agent on April 28, 2024. However, he was claimed off waivers by the Green Bay Packers on June 24, 2024. His stint with the Green Bay Packers was short-lived, as he was released on July 30, 2024.

He participated in the final five games in his freshman year, primarily as the kickoff specialist, and recorded four touchbacks. His sophomore season saw him go 40 for 40 on extra points and 13 for 15 on field goals, earning him an honorable mention on the All-Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) team. Turner continued to improve, being named one of the 20 semifinalists for the Lou Groza Award in 2020, which honors the best placekicker in college football. In the 2021 season, he was on the Lou Groza Award watch list and had a successful campaign, converting 43 of 44 extra points and 13 of 20 field goals. After this season, he was awarded a scholarship, reflecting his development and contributions to the team. His final season in college was his best, where he went 38 for 39 on extra points and 20 for 22 on field goals, earning third-team All-ACC honors.
