5 greatest IPL knocks of all-time

Every year, some player makes our jaw drop by playing an absolute gem of the innings. In the last 11 years, there are many players who have made this happen. It is very difficult to pick any five out those in-numerous number of knocks out of so many knocks.

IPL is grandest T20 stage in the world without a doubt and the environment across is just amazing, this helps to bring the best out of any player. So, today I have picked my top five IPL knocks, you might have a list of another five, so please comment below, I will try to include that in my next article.


5. MS DHONI (54* off 29 balls vs Kings XI Punjab)

In the 54th match of the third IPL season, Kings XI Punjab set a target of 193 runs for the Chennai Super Kings to win the match and enter the semifinals of the tournament. CSK got a horrific start when they were reduced to 26/2 by the Kings.

Suresh Raina and S Badrinath set the tone for the chase for Chennai Super Kings but after two fell it was looking difficult for the CSK to get to the target. Chennai required 44 runs from 18 balls to enter the semifinals.

Come to the crunch situation, the man arrives, MS Dhoni played an absolute gem. In the last over CSK required 16 runs to win and Irfan Pathan was bowling the final over of the match. Captain cool just took four balls to finish the match.

He hit the ball for four runs off the first ball of the over and then on the third and fourth ball of the over, he hit two monstrous sixes to seal the match. MS Dhoni was also awarded Man of the Match for his match-winning knock.

4. Chris Gayle ( 175* off 66 balls vs Pune Warriors India)

Everyone knows what Chris Gayle is capable of when he is in good touch. He can single-handedly destroy the opposition's bowling line up and that too without much of an effort.

On the 23rd of April 2013, balls were just flying from Chris Gayle's bat. On that day he stroked 17 sixes off the bat. He also managed to get 13 fours. He completed his century by hitting Ashok Dinda for a 112-meter six. This brutal inning of his helped Royal Challengers Bangalore to reach a score of mammoth 263 runs.

In response to this Pune Warriors India was not even able to reach Chris Gayle's individual score as they can manage only 133 runs in their 20 overs. Chris Gayle also took two wickets for his side and perhaps we could easily say that it was his day. He was awarded the Man of the Match award also.

3. AB de Villers (133* off 59 balls vs Mumbai Indians)

The player who has got every style of play. He is one such player who can score a century in 30 balls and can also score 30 runs in 250 balls. AB de Villers is loved by everyone across the globe. He might have more number of fans in India than in his own country South Africa.

AB de Villers or Mr. 360 can hit the ball in every part of the ground. Sometimes he plays such unbelievable shot that no one can believe. In the eighth season of IPL, he played one such inning where he hit the ball to every corner of the ground.

He scored 133 runs for Royal Challengers against the Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium. His innings had 19 fours and four sixes in his knock. This helped his side to beat the Mumbai Indians at their home ground by 39 runs. He was the Man of the Match for his innings.

2. Brendon McCullum (158* off 73 balls vs Royal Challengers Bangalore)

Everyone was uncertain about what the IPL will bring to the table but his knock made sure that IPL will be a big hit. It just gave IPL the start it wanted. Chinnaswamy Stadium witnessed a special knock from a special player that day. No one would have expected this in the very first match of the IPL.

Brendon McCullum scored 158 not out runs off just 73 balls. He stroked 13 huge sixes and 10 fours in his innings. His knock helped Kolkata Knight Riders to beat Royal Challengers Bangalore by a huge margin of 140 runs. This innings of his will always be a knock which would be used to describe IPL. This set the tone for the IPL and after that what happened to the IPL is just history.

In Chandigarh, on the 6th of May, David Miller showed the world that why he is called Killer Miller. Royal Challengers Bangalore scored 190 runs in their 20 overs and the Kings XI Punjab required 191 runs to win the match. Kings XI Punjab didn't get to a good start and at the tenth over were struggling at 68/4. It was looking very difficult for the Punjab team to make a comeback in the match.

David Miller was batting beautifully but still, the target was a huge one. Virat Kohli dropped him when he was batting at 41 runs off 22 balls. Kohli knew that he had dropped a big catch. After that what came was unbelievable stroke play, the next 16 balls he played he scored 60 runs in those and thus Kings XI Punjab cruised to victory in just the 18th over of the match. This innings will be remembered for his clean hitting of the ball.
