IPL 2017: Highest run scorers, wicket-takers after Mumbai Indians vs Rising Pune Supergiant

Hashim Amla, who isn’t considered a great T20 player, has a strike rate of almost 146 this season

The second leg of the Maharashtra derby in IPL 2017 at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai was an exciting contest, at the end of which the Rising Pune Supergiant emerged victorious. RPS are the only team to have defeated Mumbai Indians this season and that too, twice.

That’s right – the team which is reportedly weak, changes squad often, and have a poor pitch, have beaten the best team in the tournament in their own backyard. The Man of the Match, Ben Stokes, bowled his heart out in the second innings and it was the 19th over bowled by him that tilted the match in the visitors’ favour. The Mumbai Indians had the chase in control up until the 15th over, but Imran Tahir and Stokes were used well by Smith at the right time.

RPS scored a below par total of 160 with some help from Rahul Tripathi and Ajinkya Rahane. MI fell short by 3 runs in the end when they failed to make 17 off the last over of the innings bowled by Jaydev Unadkat.

Let us look at the leading run scorers and wicket takers after the match:

Hashim Amla’s 172 runs in two innings has helped him to the top of the leading run-scorers list in this year’s IPL. However, David Warner is just 17 runs behind him and Sunrisers Hyderabad have a game against bottom-placed Royal Challengers Bangalore tonight.

Bhuvaneshwar Kumar has no such worries. He is four wickets ahead of second-placed Chris Morris, and the Indian pacer will get a chance to further that lead even more.

Let us look at the points table now.

Today’s game against Sunrisers Hyderabad is extremely crucial for Royal Challengers Bangalore – if they lose today, their playoff chances will be very slim. Virat Kohli will have to lead from the front against one of the best-balanced teams in the tournament!
