India's ODI opener Shikhar Dhawan, after tasting success with Sunrisers Hyderabad, returned to his ‘home’ Delhi Capitals for the 2019 season. Under Shreyas Iyer, Delhi made it to the playoffs for the first time since 2012.

And Dhawan had a big role to play in Delhi’s resurgence. In 16 matches he amassed 521 runs at a strike rate of 135.67. He had five fifties at an average of 34.73, and a best of 97 not out.

Dhawan has been a consistent performer in IPL over the years. He scored 497 runs in 16 games for Sunrisers Hyderabad as they made the final in 2018. The southpaw’s ability to give the team good starts on a constant basis is something Delhi must consider as a major reason to retain him.

Overall IPL record: 159 matches, 4579 runs
