Indian Premier League has emerged as the best platform for youngsters to showcase their talent since 2008. IPL has become as a cricketing festival since its opening season and has achieved huge success. Since then, it has created lots of fans from every nook and corner of the world.

So far 9 players have grabbed this prestigious award in the history of IPL from 2008 to 2018.

The first-ever season of Indian Premier League was played in the year 2008 with 8 teams named on the basis of states of India. A total of 58 matches were played within a span of 2 months from April to June 2008. The franchise named Rajasthan Royals became the first team to lift the IPL trophy as they defeated Chennai Super Kings in a closely contested final.

But, the young Australian batsman Shaun Marsh, playing for the Kings XI Punjab was the most consistent batsman of the season as he helped his side reach the semi-finals during the IPL 2008. He emerged as the leading run scorer of that season with a total of 616 runs. He became the first player to win the Orange Cap in the history of Indian Premier League.

Chennai Super Kings have been known as the most successful team in the history of IPL right from 2008 to present. One of the main reasons behind this has been their star-studded batting line-up.

Matthew Hayden played the role of the main pillar for CSK during his golden days as he used to open the innings for his franchise. With his powerful strokes, he could smash any ball for a six creating a major problem for the bowlers. He was mainly known for his ability to tee off right from the first ball of the match.

Hayden emerged out as the Orange Cap winner of the 2nd season of IPL as he scored the total of 572 runs from 12 matches. The Aussie opener registered 5 half-centuries in the 2nd season and had an impressive average of 52.00 in the tournament.

Tendulkar played the lead role for the Mumbai squad during the 3rd edition of IPL which took place in the year 2010. He took his team to the final of Indian Premier League of 2010 but unfortunately, his side ended the season by being the runners-Up.

However, he won the hearts of every cricket fan of the world as he won the Orange Cap along with the Player of the Tournament award in that season.

He ended the season as the leading run scorer from with 618 runs in just 15 matches.

So far, Gayle has been one of the strongest players from the entire RCB side along with Virat Kohli. Chris Gayle became the first player in the history of Indian Premier League to win the Orange Cap for two consecutive years. He achieved this feat during the 4th and 5th editions of IPL.

In both the seasons, he played for the Banglore based franchise known as the Royal Challengers Bangalore. He played the role of the cornerstone for his franchise in both the editions. He opened the innings in both the seasons creating pressure in the heads of bowlers right from the first ball.

His aggressive nature of batting played the main role in achieving this award for him. Gayle aggregated 733 runs in that season and this was his best ever tally in an IPL season. The Jamaican also smashed 59 sixes in the 2012 season of IPL.

During the 6th edition of IPL which took place in the year 2013, CSK ended the season as the runners-up after they lost the finals to Mumbai Indians by 23 runs. However, they still had their players in the award lists for their outstanding performances throughout the season.

Michael Hussey was the one player in that list who was awarded the Orange Cap for his batting performances. Hussey emerged as the leading run-scorer from that season with the total of 733 runs from 16 matches.

Robin Uthappa has proved to be the golden boy for Kolkata franchise. He has single-handedly won many matches for his side with his marvelous batting performances.

Uthappa proved why he is the best player from his side in the year 2014 when he emerged as the leading run scorer from his side as well as from all other teams with a tally of 660 runs. Hence, he won the Orange Cap in the 6th edition of IPL.

#8 David Warner (Sunrisers Hyderabad, 2015)

The Aussie batsman is a balanced player who plays different roles adjusting to the different situations. Along with batting, his captaincy skills are also mind-boggling as he took SRH to its first IPL title in the year 2016. However, with the bat, Warner had already proved his worth in the year 2015 only.

With the total of 562 runs, he became the leading run scorer of the 8th edition of IPL which gave him his first Orange Cap award in IPL.

Kohli has so far played all the seasons of IPL for the Banglore based franchise named as the Royal Challengers Banglore. He was picked by his franchise for the first time from the Under-19 player draft. Since then, he has not been released by the franchise pertaining to his outstanding performances in each season of IPL.

Kohli currently holds the record of being the highest run scorer in a single season of IPL which he achieved in the year 2016. Kohli scored 973 runs from 16 matches that season which is by far the highest by any Orange Cap winner in IPL.

#10 David Warner (Sunrisers Hyderabad, 2017)

Sunrisers Hyderabad was crowned as the IPL champions in the year 2016. However, on an individual basis, their players have always been present in the awards list for their spectacular performances. The entire strength of the SRH side lies mainly in their top two players, David Warner, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

Warner has remained as the most successful captain for his side. So far, he has won the Orange Cap two times in the history of IPL. He won the orange cap for the second time in the year 2017 after scoring 641 runs in the 10th season of IPL. However, his team failed to lift the trophy that year as they were eliminated in the play-off stages of the tournament.

#11 Kane Williamson (Sunrisers Hyderabad, 2018)

The latest edition of Indian Premier League was played in the year 2018. Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad were the 2 teams who made it to the finals, which CSK won by 8 wickets thanks to the heroic innings of Shane Watson.

However, on an individual basis, SRH players also performed well as they had the Orange Cap winner from their side.

Kane Williamson became the first New Zealand player to win the Orange Cap when he won it in the year 2018. He scored 735 runs from 17 matches at an amazing average of 52.50. Not only did he pile up a mountain of runs, but he did so with at a blistering strike rate of over 170. Williamson even led the team in absence of Warner and showcased his brilliant captaincy skills.
