No, Dead Space 4 was canceled in 2013. Based on the original Dead Space from 2008, a remake of the game was released in 2023, which is a remake and not a sequel.

In 2008, the survival-horror science fiction game Dead Space made its debut to rave reviews. Twisted plots and gameplay mechanics that emphasize dismembering enemies came together to produce a tense experience. The first two games were praised for their combination of body horror elements and a dark tone. Then, with the third game's emphasis on action rather than horror, sales began to decline. The publisher eventually ended the series after interest dwindled.

Former Visceral Games creative director Ben Wanat briefly discussed Dead Space in a 2018 interview. After the underwhelming Dead Space 3, it earned two sequels, numerous spin-offs, and other media before going away. Later on, Wanat began working for Crystal Dynamics, and Visceral Games was disbanded by Electronic Arts in 2017.

Wanat asserts that the series' high development costs were ultimately its downfall. As the cost of AAA content on the market continued to rise, EA simply diverted their resources elsewhere. If the franchise could succeed and generate revenue, Wanat said, "I think you'd have to focus much more on a fantastic core experience: dread, horror, and great dismemberment combat; you'd also have to forego some of the ridiculously expensive one-off action moments."

Developed by Motive Studio and released by Electronic Arts in 2023, the remake of Dead Space was released on January 27, 2023, for PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S.

It is the first entry in the Dead Space series to be released since Dead Space 3 in 2013. The majority of the reviews for the game were positive.

What happened after the release of Dead Space 3?

Electronic Arts refuted rumors that the Dead Space series had been canceled after the release of Dead Space 3 by saying Visceral Games was engaged in other endeavors at the time. In order to work on Battlefield Hardline, Visceral Games had to change their focus, which gave them the chance to get used to the Frostbite game engine that Electronic Arts was requiring for all of its in-house games. During the course of the development of a Star Wars video game, Visceral Games was shut down in 2017.

Until Motive Studios' 2021 announcement that a remake of Dead Space was in the works, the Dead Space series was dormant. When creating the remake, the developers said they would omit microtransactions in response to feedback from the original series.

How was Dead Space 2023 developed?

EA's exclusive Frostbite engine, which Motive Studios previously used to create Star Wars: Squadrons and the single-player campaign of Star Wars Battlefront II, was used to create the game. Although the game's assets, character models, and environments have been updated, the game's plot and gameplay mechanics have not changed. The developers want to present the game as an "uninterrupted sequence shot" without loading screens by making use of SSDs on consoles from the ninth generation.

It's possible to add material that was cut from the original game because of technical limitations. In contrast to Dead Space 3, where the inclusion of microtransactions had a negative impact on the game's popularity, this one will not have any of them. Mike Yazijan, the game's art director, previously worked at EA Montreal as an art director, assisting Visceral Games in the creation of Dead Space 2.

The audio design of the original Dead Space was praised, and the team wants to maintain that atmosphere while making necessary improvements and modifications. With new musical components and cues written by Trevor Gureckis, Jason Graves' original musical score was preserved.

As in Dead Space 2 and Dead Space 3, Isaac Clarke will have a full voice, and Gunner Wright will reprise his part as Isaac Clarke. Nicole Brennan from Dead Space 2 returns, and Tanya Clarke will also return. Anthony Alabi is Zach Hammond, Brigitte Kali Canales is Kendra Daniels, and Faran Tahir is Challus Mercer.
