A group of Grand Theft Auto fans has been carrying out the GTA 6 mapping project for the last couple of years. As you might have guessed, its objective is to determine what Grand Theft Auto 6's map could look like. Needless to say, a lot of speculation is involved in this venture, as Rockstar Games hasn't revealed Leonida's layout. Nevertheless, those behind the project have put forward a potential layout, including where they believe areas like Vice City, Port Gellhorn, and others might be situated.
All of it seems very intriguing, but what about the accuracy? Well, there can't be a definitive answer until the game comes out and we finally get to see the actual map, but until then, we can try to analyze any possibilities of the GTA 6 mapping project turning out to be accurate.

What are the possibilities of the GTA 6 mapping project proving to be accurate?
In September 2022, a significant amount of Grand Theft Auto 6's development footage was leaked online. While it was unfortunate how Rockstar Games' upcoming title got shown off to the public in an unfinished state without consent, the leaked clips helped greatly in the initial stages of the GTA 6 mapping project.
Rockstar Advanced Game Engine (RAGE) coordinates from the leaks were used to form a possible layout of Leonida, along with a rough placement of some localities. The first GTA 6 trailer arrived in December 2023, and the mapping project made notable progress. More details were added based on the official footage, especially in and around Vice City.
As of this writing, the GTA 6 trailer 2 and screenshots have revealed a few other areas. The mapping project has seen significant progress and gone through quite a few changes, too. This is similar to the GTA 5 mapping project, which, interestingly, turned out to be incredibly accurate.

Does this mean the GTA 6 mapping project will also be accurate? No, but there could be a chance, since those involved in it have thoroughly analyzed the leaks and official media to put forward this potential map. Furthermore, Rockstar will likely drop more marketing materials leading up to launch, giving the mapping community further details to work with.
Readers are still advised to take it with a grain of salt, as it isn't official, and things can change throughout development. Nevertheless, there seems to be a decent possibility that the GTA 6 mapping project will get at least some things right.
