Valentina Shevchenko is a Russian mixed martial artist (MMA) who was born on March 7, 1988, in Frunze, Kirghizia, which was then a part of the Soviet Union. Although of mixed Russian-Ukrainian background, in an interview, she identified herself as Russian to emphasize her strong ties to Russian culture. Russian has been her primary language since birth, as it has been her chosen medium ever since she went through schooling. She is a former UFC Women's Flyweight Champion and is currently ranked No.3 in the Women's Pound-for-Pound rankings in the UFC.


Her family hails originally from both the Soviet Union and Kyrgyzstan. Elena Shevchenko, Valentina's mother, holds an esteemed position within her Muay Thai Association of Kyrgyzstan as president, boasting multiple Muay Thai championship titles herself. Additionally, during the Cold War era, her father, Anatoly Shevchenko, served an admirable three-year stint with the Pacific Fleet of the Soviet Navy before going on to represent the Kyrgyzstan National Football Team during this same timeframe.
