The Hammerhead Machine Gun is a familiar name among Destiny 2 veterans. It was the most powerful weapon from the renowned Forge and made add-clearing (trash mobs) significantly easier in endgame content. After four years since its vaulting, the Void Machine Gun is back with new perk combinations, an additional Origin Trait, and a fresh color.

This article lists the best perks of the Hammerhead Machine Gun for all kinds of activities. However, it should be noted that Hammerhead, like any Heavy weapon, doesn't play a significant role in PvP. Hence, having any perk combination against players will kill them regardless, if aimed correctly.

The following perks are recommended for the Hammerhead Machine Gun in Destiny 2 PvE:

  • Fluted Barrel for Stability and Handling on the weapon
  • Appended Mag for increased magazine size
  • Rampage for 33% increased damage after stacking 3 kills
  • Killing Tally for 30% additional stacked damage with multiple kills

Players are looking at a 63% damage increase with the aforementioned perk combination. Note that this can be used for both add-clearing and boss DPS.

Other perks, such as Feeding Frenzy and Killing Tally, can form a great combination for add-clearing as well, alongside Fourth Time's the Charm/Envious Assassin and Target Lock for boss DPS.

The following perks are recommended for the Hammerhead Machine Gun in PvP:

  • Arrowhead Brake for increased Handling and recoil direction
  • High-caliber rounds for increased flinching on enemies, alongside Range
  • Under-over for increased damage on enemy shields, including Guardians as well
  • Onslaught for increased fire rate after final blows

As mentioned earlier, perks in Heavy weapons aren't important for PvP. Hence, you can go for anything you want. The perks above will help defeat enemies slightly quicker.

How to get Hammerhead in Destiny 2 Into the Light

The Hammerhead can be farmed exclusively from the Onslaught game mode in "Into the Light." Head over to the Hall of Champions to start, and pick up the Hammerhead quest from Arcite. Follow the steps and report back to Shaxx to obtain a curated version of the Hammerhead with fixed perks.

Next, attune the weapon to one of the Shaxx podiums, and it will add the Hammerhead to the Onslaught loot pool. Any Hammerhead drop after attunement will have random perks, be it the standard versions or the ones with glowing shaders.
