With the future uncertain, Sunday's meeting between the Chicago Bears and the Green Bay Packers may have been Aaron Rodgers' last. There's a lot of speculation (some of which comes from himself) about the future and where he'll be next season.
Despite the uncertainty and a serious injury suffered the week prior, Rodgers showed up against his bitter rival as he often does. The performance harkened back to last season's dramatic triumph over the Bears when he screamed to fans at Soldier Field:
"I own you. All my f*****g life. I own you. I still own you."
The latest come-from-behind win further proved his dominance over Chicago. The Bears had a nine-point advantage heading into the fourth quarter. Unfortunately, for the Bears, Rodgers' brilliance showed as he led the comeback after scoring 18 unanswered points.
Even in a down year for Green Bay and Rodgers, the Bears can do nothing to stop them. At the end of the game, Rodgers teased the home crowd once again:
“It truly has been a second home to me.”
Before that, though, he acknowledged the Bears crowd, one that has had a strenuous relationship with one of football's best quarterbacks, with a salute. He reiterated the uncertainty as a reason for doing so.
It could very well be his last game as part of the Packers-Bears storied rivalry. He knows it and he also knows he's had a stellar time beating them year in and year out.
How well did Aaron Rodgers play in Sunday's win?
The season is effectively over for the Packers. With what amounts to a microscopic chance of ending up in the postseason, there's not much to play for.
Regardless, their star quarterback couldn't miss an opportunity to throttle the Bears and malign their fans. It was a solid game from him, throwing for 182 yards and one touchdown. He completed 18 of 31 pass attempts.
The win moved his career record against Chicago to a stunning 24-5. Perhaps he really does own them. If it was the final game for him, Bears fans won't be sad to see Aaron Rodgers go.
