A doctor familiar with Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin's situation said Wednesday that the player would resume playing professional football after his on-field breakdown last month stunned the NFL.

Hamlin will undoubtedly don his cleats and return to the field of play, according to Dr. Thom Mayer, medical director for the NFL Players Association, who spoke on SiriusXM's "Heart to Heart" program.

Mayer stated:

"I don't want to get into HIPAA concerns, but I promise you that Damar Hamlin will play professional football again."

Damar Hamlin, who suffered a cardiac arrest on January 2 against the Cincinnati Bengals, is still making remarkable progress.

As he is still recovering from his cardiac arrest, it is essential to mention that Hamlin has not yet spoken about his football career going forward. According to NBC News, Hamlin's spokesman on Wednesday refused to speak on the matter.

Even yet, it is astonishing that there is a chance of a Hamlin return. Even though his life was in danger barely a month ago, he now seems to be on course to recovering fully.

On January 2, during a game against the Cincinnati Bengals, Damar Hamlin abruptly collapsed to the ground, requiring two heart restarts.

Doctors had the Buffalo Bills player's health categorized as "serious" about a week before he began to grasp hands with people.

Hamlin expressed gratitude to his supporters, friends, family and the medical team after being released from the hospital for their assistance during his continued recovery.

According to ESPN, Hamlin has generated over $9 million for his Chasing M's charity. He will, therefore, undoubtedly play a significant role in that company from now on.

Hamlin also disclosed that he is partnering with the American Heart Association to launch "Damar Hamlin's Three for Heart CPR challenge," which challenges people to understand how to perform CPR properly.

He also won a prize on Wednesday in Phoenix, Arizona, at the location of the 2023 Super Bowl. It honored his contributions to his neighborhood.

Hamlin, reading from a short note while his parents joined him on stage, said:

"One of my favorite quotes: it's a blessing to be a blessing. Having said that, I intend to never take this position for granted and always approach it urgently to make a difference in both the community in which I was raised and communities all over the world."

On Thursday night, Hamlin made an appearance at the NFL Honors event in Phoenix. After thanking everyone who helped save his life, Hamlin said:

"The journey will continue."
