Chiefs fans refuse to entertain idea of trading for Tom Brady’s former teammate - “I would be shocked”

Could Patrick Mahomes (L) land Tom Brady
Could Patrick Mahomes (L) land Tom Brady's (R) former Buccaneers teammate in WR Mike Evans (C)?

The Kansas City Chiefs enter the upcoming season as defending Super Bowl champions, but Patrick Mahomes lost some key offensive weapons this offseason.

Wide receivers JuJu Smith-Schuster and Mecole Hardman signed with the New England Patriots and New York Jets, respectively. However, there are rumors that Kansas City could look to upgrade the position with Tom Brady's former teammate, Mike Evans.

Chiefs fans quickly took to Reddit to express their thoughts on the notion the team would make a move for Evans via trade:

Other Kansas City fans commented that the team should focus on other matters besides trying to get Evans:

As some fans noted, a major issue with trying to acquire a talent like Mike Evans is money. Trading him before June 1 would have Tampa Bay Buccaneers taking on a massive dead cap hit of $21.3 million this season.

Any team that trades for Evans after June 1 would take on his $13 million base salary and the necessary cap space. The Kansas City Chiefs are trying to re-sign star defensive tackle Chris Jones to a long-term deal and adding Evans could hinder those plans.

For perspective, the only wideout with a 1,000-yard season with Mahomes is Tyreek Hill with three such seasons. Mahomes has been dependent upon tight end Travis Kelce as a target since becoming the Chiefs' starter in the 2018 season.

Kelce has led the team in receiving yards in four of his five seasons with the two-time NFL MVP. We'll see if Kansas City adds anyone ahead of the upcoming season.
