The Minnesota Vikings enter the new NFL season after a disappointing 2023 campaign that saw the team and their fantasy football assets decimated with injuries.
The Vikings finished 7-10 but saw three offensive stars (Justin Jefferson, Kirk Cousins and T.J. Hockenson) miss time through injury.
Since the end of last season Cousins left for the Atlanta Falcons in free agency, with Minnesota taking Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy in Round 1 of the 2024 NFL Draft. However, McCarthy tore his meniscus in practice and will miss his entire rookie season through injury.
The Vikings still have plenty of fantasy football assets who will hope to propel the team to the playoffs in 2024.
Vikings' best fantasy assets in 2024
#5 - Ty Chandler, RB
Ty Chandler will back up Aaron Jones this season, but HE can still play an important role on this offense. In Weeks 15-18 in 2023, Chandler played at least 53% of snaps and averaged over 80 yards per game on 15 touches.
His ADP is low at No. 135 overall, and if Jones misses any time, Chandler would be in line for a large role on this offense.
#4 - T.J. Hockenson, TE
Unfortunately for Vikings tight end Hockenson, he tore his ACL and MCL at the end of 2023, meaning he's likely to miss the start of the 2024 season.
Hockenson was TE2 in PPR scoring in 2022 after registering 86 receptions for 914 yards and six TDs. He was having an even better season in 2023 — 95 catches for 960 yards and five touchdowns — before his injury.
An important part of Minnesota's offense, Hockenson would be higher on this list if not for injury, but his ADP of No. 119 overall may make him a gamble worth taking in fantasy football realms.
#3 - Jordan Addison, WR
Addison was excellent as a rookie in 2023, making 70 receptions for 911 yards and 10 touchdowns on a 17 percent target share. He ended as WR23 in PPR scoring, ahead of the likes of Garrett Wilson and Rashee Rice.
With the aforementioned Hockenson due to miss the start of 2024 through injury, there's room for Addison to command more targets in this offense. Despite the departure of Kirk Cousins, Sam Darnold isn't afraid of throwing it deep, which just so happens to be where Addison flourishes.
#2 - Aaron Jones, RB
Veteran running back Aaron Jones moved to the Vikings from NFC North rivals the Packers this offseason after spending seven seasons in Green Bay.
Despite only playing in 11 games due to injury in 2023, Jones amassed 889 total yards and three touchdowns. Between Weeks 15 and 20, Jones averaged 21.6 touches and 120.3 total yards per game. Also during the same period, he was eighth in explosive run rate and 10th in yards after contact per attempt among qualifying backs (per Fantasy Points Data).
His ADP is at No. 55 overall on FantasyPros.com, and he could be a league-winning bargain at that price.
#1 - Justin Jefferson, WR
Despite missing time through injury in 2023, as well as his starting QB Kirk Cousins missing time, Justin Jefferson ended the year fifth in fantasy points per game. He had 68 receptions for 1,074 yards and five touchdowns, garnishing a 28 percent target share, proving he doesn't need an elite quarterback to be productive.
The Vikings' offense is built around Jefferson, and despite rookie J.J. McCarthy missing his rookie year through injury, Sam Darnold won't stand in the way of Jefferson being an elite fantasy football asset.
