Is Ezekiel Elliott playing tonight? Update on Cowboys RB ahead of playoff matchup vs. 49ers

Detroit Lions v Dallas Cowboys
Ezekiel Elliott #21 of the Dallas Cowboys kneels in the end zone before the game against the Detroit Lions at AT&T Stadium on October 23, 2022 in Arlington, Texas.

Ezekiel Elliott will be playing tonight for the Dallas Cowboys in their divisional eound game against the San Francisco 49ers. The man affectionately known to Dallas fans as "Zeek" will be lining up for the Cowboys in the backfield, barring any unforeseen circumstances. Elliott will be sharing running back duties with Tony Pollard.

Elliott will serve as the Cowboys' power back, a role he has occupied since he got drafted in 2016. He will be tasked with using his raw strength to gather yards, while his backfield partner, Pollard, will be tasked with finesse plays.

The Cowboys will need all of Elliott's skills, as they are up against one of the better defenses in the league.

Ezekiel Elliott's Fantasy Outlook

For the first time in Elliott's Dallas career, he has faced significant competition for the RB1 spot. Zeek fought a good fight, but it was clear that the Cowboys played better with him as the RB2.

As such, Pollard took over as RB1, getting the bulk of carries for the Cowboys in the regular season. That worked like a charm for Dallas, as they finished the season with a 12-5 regular-season record and the fifth seed in the stacked NFC.

This year has not been the best in terms of fantasy performances for Elliott, as he has regressed in almost every category. However, all could be forgiven and forgotten if he wins the Super Bowl come February.

How is Ezekiel Elliott performing this season?

Ezekiel Elliott is having a rather average season by his remarkably high standards. He was selected fourth overall in a loaded 2016 Draft Class, and he wasted no time making an impact in the NFL. He has made the Pro Bowl three times since being drafted and has been an integral part of the Cowboys' resurgence.

Elliott has put up respectable numbers this season. In 15 games in the 2022 NFL regular season, he had 231 rushing attempts, 876 rushing yards, and 12 rushing touchdowns. He also rushed 13 times for 27 yards and caught one of two targets for nine yards in the Dallas Cowboys' 31-14 wildcard round win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
