Jerry Jones has loved to do everything big since becoming the owner of the Dallas Cowboys in 1989. Now, the owner plans on a massive upgrade to AT&T Stadium ahead of some major events. AT&T Stadium hosted Super Bowl 45 and possible improvements would probably put the stadium in a position to host some high-caliber games. Jones would also like to host major sporting events including the NCAA Final Four and WrestleMania in the future.

The Dallas Cowboys would like to have the upgrades done before the 2026 World Cup as it will be hosted in North America. Several of the enhancements would entail improving the technology accessible to those in attendance. In addition, Jones could strengthen many of the top-tier spaces inside the stadium.

Jerry Jones would like to use some of the team's box-office income to pay for the improvements. However, these are typically the funds shared with other teams. He would have to get the okay for this plan from the other 31 owners. Another component that may also be in play is that Jones may inquire the league to set aside the $600 million team debt ceiling.

When did Jerry Jones first build AT&T Stadium?

AT&T Stadium opened on May 27, 2009, and the first NFL game played in the stadium was in September of that year. The Dallas Cowboys faced their NFC East rival the New York Giants in Week Two of the 2009 - 2010 season. The attendance for that first game was 105,121.

The AT&T Stadium’s listed capacity is 80,000 people. However, the standing-room-only locales on the east and west side give the building the opportunity to hold up to 105,000. The stadium is one of the premier stadiums in the world, breaking numerous attendance records.

The idea of a complete overhaul of the old Texas Stadium first came about in 1994 but was eventually forgotten. As an alternative, Jones reached a deal with the city of Arlington to construct a stadium there. In total, the cost to build AT&T Stadium was $1.3 billion. We'll see if the renovations will help Jerry Jones bring even more fans to the stadium.
