Analyst Kevin Clark has raised doubts about Anthony Richardson's fit with the Indianapolis Colts, who selected him as the fourth overall pick of the 2023 NFL draft.

The quarterback hasn't yet lived up to his hype and expectations. During his debut campaign, Richardson played just four games before suffering an AC joint sprain that required surgery, which sidelined him for the rest of the season.

In 2024, Anthony Richardson returned as the QB1 but suffered injuries once again, starting 11 games and leading the Colts to an underwhelming 8-9 record. The quarterback tallied 1,814 yards and eight TDs passing.

On Saturday, Clark questioned Richardson's fit with the Colts. On NFL Live, he criticized the quarterback's game and performances over the past two years.

"He has thrown, Anthony Richardson, 348 passes in the NFL in his first two years," Clark said.
"That is the second-lowest of any top 10 pick in the last 20 years. Trey Lance is the only player with less pass attacks. He was drafted in the top 10. Jake Locker had a few more. ... That's the area of the pool that Anthony Richardson is in right now. So he needs to play more football."

Clark also added that Richardson could end up playing for the $5.3 billion AFC franchise, Pittsburgh Steelers.

"I've never seen anybody more destined to be in the 2026 Pittsburgh Steelers quaterback competition than Anthony Richardson."

In March, the Colts brought in Daniel Jones to strengthen their quarterback depth chart and also brought in ex-Notre Dame star Riley Leonard in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL draft.

NFL insider provides update on Anthony Richardson's injury

On Thursday, Colts coach Shane Steichen said that the third-year quarterback is experiencing pain in the same arm he had surgery on and will miss next week's minicamp.

NFL insider Jeremy Fowler shared a detailed explanation about Richardson's injury.

"It's the AC joint that he suffered an injury on in 2023, I'm told there's some inflammation from that," Fowler said. "Richardson went really hard this offseason, and in OTAs, he was throwing a lot, sometimes hundreds of footballs a day.
"He felt some soreness, some inflammation. He reported to Dr. Neal ElAttrache, who did the surgery two years ago. They looked at the scans, I'm told that structurally, this is okay. ... He fully expects to be ready to go for training camp."

Steichen hasn't provided a timeline for Richardson's return, but he's expected to return in July or August during training camp.
