The Chicago Bears were in the unique position of having landed the number one pick in the NFL draft but not needing a quarterback. With Justin Fields coming into his own a bit in 2022, there's really no need for them to try and grab Bryce Young or C.J. Stroud.
As soon as they earned the pick, many believed it would be shopped around to a quarterback-needy team. According to NFL insider Adam Schefter, that's exactly what's going to happen.
Schefter tweeted:
"Sources: The Bears already have been approached by multiple teams about trading the draft’s No. 1 overall pick, and Chicago is said to be “leaning toward” moving the pick. So the No. 1 pick now looks like it’s for sale."
According to his sources, the Bears have already had a few teams come to them and inquire about a trade. The first-overall pick is incredibly valuable and there are several teams interested in it.
Given their roster situation, it would be a huge surprise if the Bears didn't end up trading down in the draft.
They don't truly need the first pick, but they do need more picks to fill a talent-poor roster and provide Fields with weapons and help.
What teams should trade for the Chicago Bears' number one pick?
Several teams could use the first-overall pick to take either Bryce Young or C.J. Stroud. If the Seattle Seahawks don't re-sign Geno Smith, they could trade up from the number five pick.
The Las Vegas Raiders pick seventh and the Atlanta Falcons pick eighth. Neither has a long-term solution at quarterback right now.
The Carolina Panthers are ninth and seem to be the most likely trade candidate. Ninth is probably too low to get the quarterback they want, and with a new coaching staff, it's a good time to get one.
The Tennessee Titans, drafting 11th, might be interested in moving up, too. If they decide that Ryan Tannehill is no longer their guy, it wouldn't be a surprise.
The New York Jets have been shopping for a veteran quarterback. Why not consider trading up from 13the to first and getting a rookie quarterback that would be cheaper?
Plenty of teams will be calling the Chicago Bears. There may be an all-out bidding war for their pick.
