Cowboys latest move all but ends Odell Beckham Jr.'s prospect of teaming up with Dak Prescott and rest of team

Is the Dallas Cowboys' pursuit of Odell Beckham Jr. finally over? The signing of T.Y. Hilton certainly appears to show that. The much-publicized efforts of Jerry Jones and several Cowboys players in Dak Prescott, Micah Parsons, CeeDee Lamb and Ezekiel Elliott could all have been in vain.

The Cowboys announced the signing of Hilton a mere few hours ago as they look to beef up an offense that already puts points up for fun. With the Odell Beckham Jr. saga now appearing to be behind Dallas, the signing of Hilton indicates a willingness to sign players who can help the Cowboys this year.

Many NFL fans have trolled Dallas in the last few hours for the signing of Hilton after they seemed hellbent on securing the services of "OBJ". While Jerry Jones has stated that the situation is still ongoing, it leaves many wondering how far Dallas was willing to go to get Beckham Jr. on the roster.

It doesn't appear to be too far. However, with the receiver saying he will be ready in five weeks, that doesn't help the Cowboys now. Not to mention lockeroom chemistry for a player who walks straight into the playoffs. That could cause some angst.

The overriding feeling is that with Hilton now calling Dallas home; the Beckham Jr. saga is over...for now.

Could Dallas still sign Beckham Jr.?

In theory, yes, Dallas could still land a big free agent signing. However, it would need to be fit team-wise and financially. With Odell reportedly wanting $20 million in APY, that is a lot of money for a player who is coming off two ACL surgeries and isn't willing to undertake a workout to prove he is healthy.

While Jerry Jones has made it clear that he wants a player who can help the team win "now" (Hilton fits the bill), Odell will reportedly not be ready for five weeks. It remains to be seen as to whether the Cowboys will put forth a "prove it" deal for OBJ.

If he takes minimum wage and performance bonuses for his duration this year and hits all those markers, then next season the contract he wants could come to fruition. As far as signing him this season, it now looks unlikely.

Where he will land now is unknown, although many think a reunion with the New York Giants looks to be the favorite.
