Dallas Cowboys’ cap space for 2023: Can Jerry Jones afford to splash the cash on Odell Beckham Jr.?

The Dallas Cowboys have worked to get under the $16.1 million cap deficit they had to reach by Wednesday (March 15), the official new league year.

The Cowboys achieved that by releasing Elliott Elliott and restructuring the contracts of DeMarcus Lawrence, Tryon Smith, Dak Prescott, Zack Martin and Michael Gallup. The maneuvering should give the Cowboys an additional $45 million in cap room to work with ahead of 2023 free agency.

The major drawback to the Cowboys' cap room mess is that they have released Dallas icon Ezekiel Elliott following seven years with the team. The man affectionately known as Zeke was synonymous with the franchise since being drafted as the fourth pick in the 2016 NFL draft, but now, he's set to find a new team to call home.

Zeke's departure from America's team is the end of an era. So owner Jerry Jones will hope to find a worthy replacement for the legendary, bruising running back.

Can Dallas Cowboys splash the cash on Odell Beckham Jr.?

Of course, Jerry Jones can afford to splash the cash on Odell Beckham Jr., with the former Pro Bowler set to make his long-awaited return to the gridiron in 2023.

Beckham is returning from a gruesome ACL injury sustained in the 2022 Super Bowl game between the Los Angeles Rams and the Cincinnati Bengals. That ended with Beckham earning his first Super Bowl ring but at the cost of a lengthy spell away from pro-level football.

Jerry Jones has been openly flirting with the prospect of adding Beckham to his franchise, as the former New York Giants wideout fits his superstar specification. Furthermore, there's a wide-open slot awaiting Beckham in Dallas, as the Cowboys haven't replaced Amari Cooper after his departure to the Cleveland Browns.

What's more: Odell Beckham is just a year from two years removed from putting up 1,000 yards with a mediocre Browns team.

What would Odell Beckham bring to Dallas Cowboys?

Odell Beckham Jr. will bring star power to the Dallas Cowboys, a certain amount of star power that has been absent on the team since the days of Michael Irvin. Few players are as exciting as Beckham when he's in the mood, and the mercurial wideout should find himself at home in Dallas.

Beckham already has many friends on the roster, with the likes of Trevon Diggs and Micah Parsons among his favorite buddies. If Jerry Jones convinces Beckham to come through, it would be a loaded offense in Dallas.
