Christian McCaffrey is out this week, missing another game to begin the 2024 season with a sore calf and Achilles tendon. The development was confirmed by the San Francisco 49ers on Friday, later adding that they were now contemplating adding him to the IR.

And once again, fantasy managers are in disbelief:

"I'm never drafting this mf again," a fan said.

More of it can be seen below:

"I should have never drafted him," one said.
"YOU ARE KILLING MY FANTASY SEASON CHRISTIAN," another wrote.
"There goes my fantasy season," another sighed.

Expected to start again in his stead is Jordan Mason, who dominated this past Monday against the New York Jets with 147 yards and a touchdown on 28 carries.

Meanwhile, McCaffrey called his absence from that game "a group decision" when asked by reporters on Wednesday.

"I hate not playing, but I look at it as a chess move and something that hopefully you can benefit from the rest of the season," McCaffrey said.

NFL addresses Christian McCaffrey's sidelining vs. Jets after Jordan Mason's comments

Jordan Mason's comments about replacing Christian McCaffrey have prompted an investigation by the NFL. On Friday, it announced:

"We have looked into the 49ers’ reporting of the playing status of Christian McCaffrey for the team’s Monday night game against the New York Jets. We have found no evidence of a violation of the league’s injury report policy in this matter."

Mason had said this upon being asked when he first knew he would start vs. the Jets during the immediate post-game interview:

"Maybe... Friday. Friday night, something like that."

That statement generated much online controversy, with coach Kyle Shanahan dismissing such a notion in his post-game presser:

"I never told Jordan he was going to start. I told him he had to be ready a bunch, but that might've been [running backs Robert Turner Jr.] or somebody trying to pump him up."

During his post-game presser, Mason was confronted with his comments. He attempted to dodge it:

“That question right there,” Mason said. “That’s why I don’t really like talking to the media. Because you say one thing wrong, and then, you know. Just skip that question.”

The 49ers vs. Vikings game will kick off at 1 p.m. ET on CBS.
