#FireSkipBayless trends on social media as NFL fans blast analyst over his insensitive Damar Hamlin tweet

The "FireSkipBayless" hashtag began trending last night after the host
The "FireSkipBayless" hashtag began trending last night after the host's insensitive comments.

In the midst of one of the most serious injuries that has ever taken place on an NFL field, FOX Sports' Skip Bayless was criticized for the insensitive comments he made on Twitter. Buffalo Bills second-year safety Damar Hamlin collided with Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins. Hamlin was given CPR and the use an AED machine while the medical staff tended to him for over ten minutes.

Players from both the Bills and Bengals gathered on the field, praying and consoling each other, in a scene never before seen in the National Football League. The game was suspended as both teams retreated to their respective locker rooms. About an hour later, the NFL postponed the game.

Hamlin reportedly suffered cardiac arrest after the hit and is at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center where he is listed in critical condition.

As players were seen on the ESPN broadcast, clearly emotional about what they just witnessed and obviously not in the right mindset to play a football game, Bayless took to Twitter. He said that there was no way that he assumed the NFL would be postponing the game but that he didn't understand how. He said that the game was so crucial at this point in the season that it needed to be played.

"No doubt the NFL is considering postponing the rest of this game - but how? This late in the season, a game of this magnitude is crucial to the regular-season outcome ... which suddenly seems so irrelevant."

Those comments obviously didn't sit well with many on Twitter, including fans and even NFL players. The hashtag "FireSkipBayless" was soon trending throughout the night and into the morning. Fans expressed their displeasure for the "Undisputed" co-host's comments about a traumatic event.

"I'm still wrecked" - Skip Bayless issues apology over his Hamlin tweet

After Skip Bayless' insensitive comments about Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin, went viral on Monday night, he tried to backtrack what he said. Despite an apology tweet later in the evening, the anger about his original comments was still present.

On Tuesday morning, Skip Bayless was, once again, hosting "Undisputed" on Fox Sports1, but he was without his co-host Shannon Sharpe. Bayless took the approach of making it all about himself. He said that he was struggling to even do his show on Tuesday morning. He said that he barely slept at night and wasn't sure if broadcasting the show was necessary.

"I apologize for what we're going to set out to do here today if it offends anyone, because we're going to try to do the show pretty much as we usually do the show. But I'll admit up front. I'm still shook up by what happened last night to Damar Hamlin, in fact, I'm still wrecked. In fact, I'm not sure I'm capable of doing this show today. But after barely sleeping on it, I decided to give it a try."

"Maybe I'll fail; maybe we will fail. But we're going to try. We wrestled through much of the night whether to even do a show today because it felt like in our minds. We almost can't win with this because the last thing we want to try to do is come off as insensitive to what this young man is going through in a life or death situation. The last thing we want to do is offend anyone by trying to do what we always do," - Skip Bayless said on Undisputed

He then went on to say that he didn't want to offend anyone by saying or talking about Hamlin's condition. Stating that he didn't want to be insensitive about what Hamlin and his family are currently experiencing.
