The first pick in the 2024 NFL draft is more than just an outstanding quarterback. At practice on Monday, Caleb Williams was catching passes in what appeared to be a trick play designed by the team’s new head coach and offensive guru, Ben Johnson.
On Monday’s edition of "Breakfast Ball," host Danny Parkins reacted to Williams making an acrobatic one-handed catch on a deep pass:
“He’s a triple threat,” Parkins remarked at 0:06.

“Travis Hunter is going to play both ways. Maybe Caleb Williams can be the (Bears) cornerback, get a little pick six, people are saying that,” Parkins continued at 0:17.
Hunter was chosen second by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 2025 draft and was a standout in college with the Colorado Buffaloes last season, known for being an outstanding receiver and cornerback, and will play both ways in the NFL. Hunter won the 2024 Heisman Trophy, as did Williams in 2022.
“Excellent athlete, great ball skills, one-handed catch,” Parkins said about Caleb Williams at 0:23.
Last season, the former Oklahoma star set an NFL record for most passing attempts by a rookie quarterback without an interception (354) and completed more passes than any Bears rookie quarterback in team history (351). On the other hand, he was sacked 68 times more than any QB in the league last season.
The club hired Ben Johnson to try and add more innovation and trickery, with the former Detroit Lions offensive coordinator helping that team make the playoffs in two straight campaigns while building a top-five offense.
Caleb Williams is building some chemistry with a top receiver
While Caleb Williams has shown that he can pass, run and catch the ball, he may not have to worry too much about catching passes. In training camp, he’s been developing a strong connection with Olamide Zaccheaus.
The native of New Jersey, who was with the Washington Commanders in 2024, signed with the Bears on a one-year contract in March. Williams’ connections with Zaccheaus have been a storyline this offseason in Chicago.
Last season, the Bears were the second-worst passing offense in the NFL, averaging 181.5 yards per game. D.J. Moore was their top receiver, with 966 yards and six touchdowns.
Zacchaeus was an undrafted player out of Virginia, having been a First-team All-ACC player in 2018. He has had previous stints with the Atlanta Falcons, Philadelphia Eagles and Commanders before joining the Bears.
He helped the Cavaliers win the 2018 Belk Bowl, making 12 catches for 100 yards and three touchdowns, and was named the MVP of that game.
