NFL fans are stunned about Baker Mayfield's win on Thursday Night Football, while Derek Carr is equally dumbfounded about the interception he threw near the end of the first half. In a game the team was dominating, the quarterback only needed to maintain control of the ball and the Raiders would have led by two touchdowns.

Instead, one of the most damning moments of the evening occurred. Derek Carr tried to explain what happened, according to Pro Football Talk

“I don’t know if I got tripped. I don’t know what happened. Something happened, but I was throwing it to Mack in the back of the end zone. The safety took Foster [Moreau] and I was going to throw it to Mack and something happened as I was throwing it. So, something happened but Mack was open."

He continued, explaining why the turnover ended up being the dagger:

"I was trying to give him a ball for a touchdown, and that’s the hard part, because that’s points, that’s the difference in the score. It’s tough, it was that close to having a touchdown and, you know, everyone’s feeling better about today.”

Los Angeles Rams QB Baker Mayfield's week ends as one for the ages

At the start of the week, the quarterback was thinking about leaving the Carolina Panthers. In the span of a few days, he asked for a release and the team, seemingly willing to move on, gave him up. The quarterback was put onto the waiver wire and just one team claimed him - the Los Angeles Rams.

Initially, many expected Mayfield to miss Thursday Night Football. However, with just one practice under his belt, he took over for John Wolford after one series of the game. Initially, he started strong, putting the team in position for a field goal in his first drive.

However, after that and for most of the rest of the game, what appeared to be the quarterback's lack of practice showed through. That said, just when it seemed like hope was lost for the Rams at 16-3 with just about three minutes left, Mayfield exploded. In the second such comeback of the week, Mayfield drove the team down the field and twice, winning the game at 17-3.
