Running back James Cook sent a message to the Buffalo Bills about wanting a new contract. The Bills drafted the 2x Pro Bowler in the second round of the 2022 NFL draft. Since then, Cook has played 49 games while recording 2,638 yards and 20 TDs rushing.
During Thursday's mandatory minicamp, Bills GM Brandon Beane was questioned about James Cook's contract extension. Instead of sharing an update, he remained tight-lipped on their contract talks.
"I'll keep that between us as far as that's going," Beane said according to an article by Bills reporter Maddy Glab.. "But the relationship's very good. I know Jimbo's going to be ready to roll out when we get to Rochester."

Earlier this offseason, James Cook decided not to participate in the team's OTAs. However, despite no news on his contract extension, the running back attended all three days of minicamp, showing that his relationship with the Bills has not yet turned sour.

"Our interactions with Jimbo (Cook) have been good the whole time thoughout," Beane said. "I know he wasn't there, so everyone just draws their own conclusions when you're talking about it's voluntary... Jimbo, he's a pro, he's a competitive dude. He loves to win. Of course, he wants to take care of himself. Everyone does, and we love to see that."
James Cook is entering the final year of his rookie deal with the Bills. Last season, he put up 1,009 yards and 16 TDs rushing while the Bills made it to the AFC Championship. Unfortunately, they lost to the Chiefs in the title game, crushing their hopes of a Super Bowl appearance.
James Cook reveals reason behind attending mandatory minicamp
It is like a trend among NFL players to hold out from participating in camps and training until their contract demands are met. However, Cook took part in the team's mandatory minicamp regardless of his contract situation.
While speaking with the media, the running back revealed the reason behind his decision not to hold out from participation.
"I like my money, you know? Defnitely do. That's why I'm here," Cook said.
"I mean, why not? I'm here. I'm part of the team. I'm a leader. So, I just got to pratice and get the job done."
The Bills begin their 2025 campaign with a season opener against the Ravens on September 8. Only time will tell if they can agree to a new deal with Cook before the start of the season.
