Rob Gronkowski said on Wednesday that Josh Allen's Buffalo Bills’ recent struggles are a sign of deeper problems. The former New England Patriots tight end discussed Buffalo’s defense after back-to-back losses dropped the team out of first place in the AFC East.
Gronkowski spent years facing Buffalo as a divisional rival. He mentioned that the Bills no longer look like the powerhouse they were during their recent five-year stretch atop the division.
Gronkowski compared the Bills to another AFC contender that has exceeded expectations early in the season.

"I would say right now, I actually trust the Colts more," Gronkowski said, via the "Up & Adams" show.

"I'm a little worried about the Bills. Their defense is a little iffy. They've been letting up a lot of points this year, even that first game versus the Baltimore Ravens. I mean, a lot of points. I don't think their defense is doing that great. I don't see them getting really that much better as well throughout the year."
Allen's once-dominant defense has been exposed in recent weeks. The team fell to 4-2 after allowing over 250 passing yards in losses to New England and Atlanta. The unit has also struggled against the run, giving up big plays and long drives that erased early-game leads.
Gronkowski believes Josh Allen lacks a game-changing receiver
Rob Gronkowski highlighted that the Bills are missing a true No. 1 receiver to complement Josh Allen’s arm strength and mobility.
"They need a big-play wide receiver," Gronkowski said on Wednesday, via "Up & Adams." "They have got a couple of guys, but they need a number one."
Buffalo’s passing attack has leaned on young targets Khalil Shakir and Keon Coleman. They are both capable of flashes but not yet consistent week to week. Team insiders have suggested that the Bills could explore a trade before the deadline to add a veteran presence at the position.
Meanwhile, New England has surged to the top of the division under Mike Vrabel. It is riding a four-game win streak led by Drake Maye.
Former Patriots wideout Julian Edelman said last weekend that Buffalo’s slide has opened the door for New England's first AFC East title since 2019. He called the Bills “a team trending down” during Fox’s broadcast.
The next test will be on Sunday against the Carolina Panthers, who are uncertain at quarterback after Bryce Young’s injury.
