Is Greg Olsen getting a pay cut? Tom Brady's broadcasting career could spell doom for former NFL star

Tampa Bay Buccaneers v Carolina Panthers
Greg Olsen is set to earn $10 million from FOX in 2023

Tom Brady's retirement was supposed to see his broadcasting career start with Fox, but the quarterback decided to take a sabbatical year before getting into the booth for NFL games.

You know who has the happiest person in the world with this decision? Former Carolina Panthers tight end and current Fox analyst Greg Olsen.

The reason is pretty simple. According to the New York Post, the fact that Brady decided to wait a year before becoming an analyst for Fox will earn Olsen $7 million as he remains the lead analyst for the channel.

"If Brady showed up for Fox next fall, Olsen not only would be knocked down to the No. 2 game analyst spot, but his salary would drop from $10 million to $3 million," the Post reported. "The $3 million is a livable wage, but the extra $7 million is a significant difference. Olsen’s contract could be worth $50 million over five years if he remains in the No. 1 booth.

"It would have fallen to five years and $22 million if Brady started this fall. Now, at worst, Olsen will receive at least $29 million over those five years."

Olsen has a clause in his contract that, should the opportunity to join another network arise after he's bumped down, he's allowed to opt out from the Fox deal.

What is Tom Brady's deal with Fox?

Tom Brady has a 10-year, $375 million deal with Fox to become an analyst. The agreement was set to start once the quarterback decided to retire, but he later postponed the decision for a year.

He had a 23-season career with many titles and accolades that made him the greatest quarterback of all time. Of course, he has won so much and has been the league's most popular player for so long that he has earned an awful lot of money through the decades.

But his huge $37.5 million salary is still a huge bump from any other analyst in networks that broadcast the NFL. Tony Romo, who has the reported highest salary from all networks, earns "just" $17 million from CBS. Brady will double that amount.

Money is never going to be a problem for his family's next generation, especially as his former wife, Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bundchen, also has an estimated net worth of $400 million. Their kids will be alright.
