Mina Kimes found herself in the middle of a controversy as a Boston sports radio personality used an ethnic slur on-air.

Chris Curtis was asked along with his colleagues to list their top five nips, a term used for tiny bottles. The word “nip” also carries a negative overtone towards those of Japanese ancestry.

Curtis replied:

“Uh, I’d probably go Mina Kimes.”

In a statement by WEEI, Curtis said he meant to say Mila Kunis. Ultimately, he was given a one-week suspension for his comments.

Jason Whitlock then entered the conversation. The former ESPN employee took to Twitter to say that Kimes "was nailing herself to a cross" over the controversy.

Kimes, in turn, quoted Whitlock's tweet with this response:

Whitlock doubled down on his stance in a piece for The Blaze. He wondered if Kimes was truly harmed by Curtis' comments and spoke down on her abilities as an NFL analyst.

Whitlock said:

"Were Kimes’ feelings legitimately hurt? Is she less employable today than yesterday? Is the sports media world rigged to discriminate against Asian journalists?"

He continued:

"I’d argue just the opposite. Mina Kimes has a high-profile TV job because she’s Asian and female. She’s no expert on the NFL. She’s a decent sports writer, but ESPN has more than two dozen sports writers far more accomplished, skilled, and informed than Mina Kimes. And some of them are women."

Whitlock added:

"But they’re not Asian, and they’re not as attractive as Kimes, and they might not be as comfortable playing victim as Kimes."

Following the comments, Kimes changed her profile to Kunis before changing it back:
