After a lot of pressure from league officials and fellow owners, Washington Commanders owner Dan Snyder appears to finally be selling the franchise. He has hired Bank of America to help consider potential transactions, signaling he is moving forward with selling the team.

It may take a while, but Commanders fans who have waited for this moment don't have to wait much longer for the team to have a new owner. There's no telling who that might be, but NFL fans think there's one very likely candidate.

Jeff Bezos, the Amazon CEO, figures to be a potential candidate for the team. Some fans are convinced he's going to end up owning the franchise sooner rather than later. Some even see that as a preferred outcome:

This is only the first step in a long process towards selling the franchise, but if Bezos seriously wants to buy the team, that might shorten the process. He's clearly the favorite for the position, and there might not be as much competition as a result. Bezos is considered the second richest person in the world.

Why is Dan Snyder selling the Commanders?

Over the years, there have been a lot of allegations levied against the Snyder-owned Washington franchise. These range from toxic workplace conditions to sexual misconduct.

The NFL investigated and found a lot of examples, but they were hesitant to force him out. However, after pressure from all sides, it seems like they will not have to force the owner out.

Instead, it seems like he is selling on his own accord, albeit probably begrudgingly. The Commanders released a statement today about the news:

"Dan and Tanya Snyder and the Washington Commanders announced today that they have hired BofA [Bank of America] Securities to consider potential transactions. The Snyders remain committed to the team, all of its employees and its countless fans to putting the best product on the field and continuing to set the gold standard for workplaces in the NFL."

Looking at that, it seems almost a foregone conclusion that the current owner will sell the team. Anything can happen, but there's a chance Bezos will own this team sometime in the near future.
