Joshua Dobbs' aerospace background: How Vikings QB went from rocket scientist to NFL QB

Dallas Cowboys v Tennessee Titans
Joshua Dobbs of Tennessee Titans v Dallas Cowboys

Joshua Dobbs might be one of the most interesting players in the NFL right now. He came in on December 21 before being named the starting quarterback for the Tennessee Titans against the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday Night Football. However, he has faced far bigger challenges in life.

Dobbs has faced down alopecia from a young age and not only has he not let if affect him, he has become an advocate for people suffering from the condition. Perhaps equally as impressively, Joshua Dobbs is a literal rocket scientist playing in the NFL.

For someone who has sat for multiple exams on the same day, learning some NFL plays should be a child's play. It looked that way as he passed for his first touchdown with the Tennessee Titans. That is already one more than backup quarterback Malik Willis has thrown for this season and might have surpassed him on the depth chart in one game.

Dobbs seems to be acing challenges on the field as much as he did in college.

How did Joshua Dobbs get into aerospace engineering?

Joshua Dobbs has a lot to thank his parents for. From picking up his car in Detroit before the game today to helping him navigate alopecia as a child, they have always been there with him. They were also instrumental in taking him to the Kennedy Space Center, which made the young Dobbs fascinated with all things aerospace.

He took that passion all the way to the University of Tennessee, where he graduated with a 4.0 GPA in Aerospace Engineering. As a star student, he made it onto the dean's list as well. Just as he juggled his passion for rocket science with football when in college, he has done the same as a pro footballer.

As part of an NFLPA internship, while he was still with the Jacksonville Jaguars, he spent a month at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. He was on site for the historic SpaceX launch to the International Space Station.

He is now back in the same city where he went to college and Dobbs was hoping to lead the Titans into the playoffs.

Currently with the Vikings, Dobbs has a whole new season and a new challenge in front of him. Starting the 2023 season with the Arizona Cardinals, Dobbs will have a new perspective to add while Cousins recovers.
