"Keep her name out your mouth" - Cam Newton recalls clashing with GF Jasmin Brown over ex-NFL MVP's first 'baby mama'

Cam Newton is in a relationship with comedian and actress, Jasmin Brown, also known as Watch Jazzy. The couple first went public at Milan Fashion Week in 2022. Two years later, in March 2024, they welcomed their first child together, with a second on the way. Newton has eight children, including stepkids from previous relationships.

During Friday's interview with K. Michelle, the former Carolina Panthers quarterback recalled a moment when Brown said something that caught him off guard.

“She said, ‘My heart goes out to Kia,’” Newton said (0:10), via the "Funky Friday Podcast." "As we kept dating, she said it again. She would say it regularly. She was like, 'Man, my heart goes out to Kia.'”

Kia Proctor is the mother of four of his children, and hearing Brown talk about her felt strange to him. He admitted he got in "defense mode."

“I told her, ‘You don’t know Kia,'" Newton said (0:38). "'Keep her name out your mouth.'”

At that time, Newton felt like she was stepping into a part of his life that was still sensitive. Proctor wasn’t just an ex, she was someone he shared a family and a past with. Newton added that he reacted like the “little boy” in him, quick to protect, slow to understand.

The clip of this conversation, which was posted by Newton on his YouTube channel on Sunday, is part of a longer interview. He talked about co-parenting, having a blended family and how hard it was to grow emotionally while being in the public eye.

Newton also made it clear that he doesn't like Proctor being called a single parent.

"I don't even like my 'baby mama' saying that they are single parent," Newton said (25:12). "You got too much support."

Proctor, who was once a model, started dating Newton in 2013. They had four children: Chosen, Sovereign-Dior, Camidas and Cashmere.

Newton also helped raise Kia’s daughter, Shakira, from a previous relationship.

Kia Proctor opened up about co-parenting schedule with Cam Newton

In September, Kia Proctor shared her story in a YouTube video called “Truth.”

She talked about her journey, from moving cities for love to becoming a full-time mom of five, all while dealing with heartbreak and finding herself again.

She moved to Atlanta in 2015 to be with Newton during his NFL peak. In four years, they had four kids together.

“Every year for four years, I was pregnant,” Proctor said. “I had Chosen, Sovereign-Dior, Camidas and then Cashmere. Looking back, I don’t know how I did it, but I love all my kids and I made it through.”

Proctor hoped they’d get married someday. However, things changed when Newton had a baby with another woman while they were still together.

“He had a baby outside of our relationship that I was not OK with, and we were not married," Proctor said.

"So I’m like, 'I’m not about to deal with this,' because I thought what we had was something way more special than the way you’re treating it. And I felt like I had no choice but to leave. I had to choose me and my kids over what he was about to put me through.”

Even though their romantic relationship ended, Proctor said that she and Newton have a strong co-parenting setup. Their routine includes switching custody every week.
