Major problem with Russell Wilson’s Broncos back in the spotlight - “No one’s talking about that”

NFL analyst questions whether Russell Wilson
NFL analyst questions whether Russell Wilson's biggest 2022 problem was fixed

Russell Wilson and the Denver Broncos had the year few thought was possible in 2022 in the worst way. Many believe that the quarterback's new head coach instantly solved one of the problems facing the organization. However, speaking on Up and Adams, NFL analyst Kay Adams didn't mince words:

"Can Sean Payton get Russell Wilson on track? The Broncos scored the fewest points in the league last year and no one’s talking about that. Russell Wilson’s had career lows in pretty much every category and that’s just not something I can see happening this year under Sean Payton."

She continued, outlining a cloudy forecast ahead in 2023 despite his accomplishments during the Drew Brees era:

"It’s gonna be tough in that division. It’s not the division Sean was playing in when he had Drew Brees at quarterback. Payton had nine top-5 scoring offenses during 16 years in New Orleans and he only finished in the bottom half of the league once. That is impressive. This man just doesn’t run bad offenses."

Broncos schedule 2023: How many games could Russell Wilson win in Denver this year?

The Denver Broncos are a polarizing team. Some believe that about 10 wins are possible under Sean Payton while others believe the cat is out of the bag with the quarterback and six wins would beat expectaions. However, a look at the team's schedule reveals another borderline .500 prospect in 2023.

In the first month, the team faces a Raiders team easing into their new identity under Jimmy Garoppolo, a perennially struggling Commanders franchise, and then two road games against the Dolphins and the Bears. Two to three wins are possible here.

In the second set of four games, the team faces Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets, Patrick Mahomes in his building, the Packers and then Mahomes again. This might be the toughest stretch on the calendar and the team may go 0-4 or perhaps 1-3 if Jordan Love isn't up to snuff.

Next up, Wilson faces the Bills, Vikings, Browns, and Texans. The Texans and Browns could be wins while the Bills and Vikings are likely losses. 2-2 is attainable but a 1-3 run seems equally possible.

To wrap the year, the team faces the Chargers twice, the Lions, and the Patriots. The Lions were arguably the hottest team in football at the end of last season, so a loss seems likely there. The Chargers may split games with the team and the Patriots feel like a win. Then, to end the year, the team goes full circle in facing Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels for the second time.

In the final five games, the team seems poised to go 3-2. Overall, eight wins feels like the floor while 10 wins seems like the ceiling, which would put the team on the edge of the playoffs but maybe just outside the cut.
