Tampa Bay Buccaneers receiver Mike Evans has been pegged as a possible trade candidate for salary cap reasons. But fans think the wide receiver might ask to be dealt before the team even decides if they want to part ways with him.The Buccaneers are searching for a new quarterback following Tom Brady's retirement. According to reports, former Los Angeles Rams quarterback Baker Mayfield is a primary target for the team. Mayfield, who's a former first overall pick, has not seen his NFL career pan out the way he would've wanted.Even though he finished the 2022 season with the Rams on a high note, it's clear that NFL fans do not think highly of him. Many were astonished by the Buccaneers' reported interest in Mayfield.Ian Rapoport@RapSheetWhen free agency begins, the #Bucs are expected to target ex-#Rams QB Baker Mayfield as a potential starting QB option, per me and @MikeGarafolo. This could be competition for Kyle Trask, their former 2nd-round pick, who the team likes a lot. The Buccaneers need to clean up cap space and Evans will be a free agent in 2024.A post-June 1 trade for Evans would save more than $14 million in cap space. This will give the Buccaneers some breathing room while they look for other ways to get under the cap.Based on Tyreek Hill and A.J. Brown's trades last year, we can speculate what Evans' value will be in the offseason if it does indeed happen. It's unlikely that the Buccaneers would get anything more than a second-round pick for him, as absurd as it might sound.Evans has just one year left on his current contract. Any team that trades for him would need to sign a contract extension for the deal to make sense. Secondly, he will enter his age-30 season in 2023, and while nobody thinks he's declining yet, his age is a concern in the long term. The New York Jets are probably the favorites to trade for him, but do not discount the Dallas Cowboys as they look to complement CeeDee Lamb.
