Jalen Hurts has put together a fantastic season for the Philadelphia Eagles thus far. He has them at 12-1 atop the NFC East and his dominant performance over division rivals (and playoff hopefuls) the New York Giants pushed them to last place in the division.

The second-year quarterback has taken his game to new heights and former NFL tight end Shannon Sharpe believes he's earned the MVP award. Sharpe tweeted:

"MVP race over. That award belongs to and rightful so to J. Hurts."

With just four weeks left in the regular season, it is hard to see Hurts stumbling so much that he loses his shot at winning the award. On the same day that the Eagles played so well, other MVP hopefuls faltered.

In a narrow win over the lowly Denver Broncos, Patrick Mahomes threw three interceptions. The Buffalo Bills eked out a win against the New York Jets, but Josh Allen only threw for 147 yards.

The Eagles quarterback continued his excellence over what might be a playoff team. He was 21 for 31 passing with 217 yards and two touchdowns. He added 77 yards (at an 11 yard clip) for another touchdown on the ground.

The Eagles dominated 48-22. Voters have slowly begun moving away from the idea that the MVP should come from the best team in the league. However, it's hard to ignore the quarterback's stats and his team's near-pristine record.

Does Jalen Hurts have the best MVP odds right now?

To Sharpe's credit, while the race isn't over, oddsmakers seem to agree with him. For now, Jalen Hurts is the favorite for the MVP award. The odds are, per VegasInsider:

  • Jalen Hurts -107
  • Mahomes +140
  • Joe Burrow +720
  • Allen +1780
  • Tua Tagovailoa +4600
  • Tyreek Hill +10800
  • Justin Jefferson +11000
  • Geno Smith +12500

Right now, it's Hurts' award to lose. However, it is still a tight race. Mahomes is breathing down his neck and Burrow isn't far behind him. Allen, the pre-season favorite, is also there and is capable of stringing together four magnificent weeks to claim the prize.

For now, though, the Eagles star can look back on the first 13 weeks of the season with a lot of pride. He's been incredible and deserves the plaudits coming his way.
