NFL fans react to news of Broncos firing HC Nathaniel Hackett: "Worst hire of all time" , "Now fire Russell Wilson"

The Denver Broncos just fired Nathaniel Hackett after a 4-11 start to the season. On Christmas Day, the Broncos were roundly defeated by Baker Mayfield and the Los Angeles Rams, 51-14.

This move has been brimming for a long time. Even in Week 1, it looked like he was overmatched as a head coach and that continued all season. They have long been out of contention and have long been one of the worst teams in football.

Now, they've given up on their head coach not even a full year after hiring him. Most first-year coaches are given time to form a team and a culture.

However, the Broncos hired Hackett to be one of the final pieces, along with new quarterback Russell Wilson. Both have been disastrous this year and now that Hackett is gone, NFL fans are praying that Wilson goes next.

His $243 million contract makes that difficult, but fans are hoping that the Broncos are going to clean house.

Moving on from Russell Wilson is likely impossible, especially after his mega extension that he received before he even took a snap for the Broncos.

That's not the end of the world, though. Wilson is just over a year removed from being a Pro Bowl quarterback. The idea that he suddenly can't play football again is far-fetched.

A good coach, one who knows offenses and quarterbacks, could easily turn him into a serviceable quarterback again. While that's not worth the money he's signed for, it's probably the best outcome.

Denver Broncos: Who will be their next head coach after firing Nathaniel Hackett?

The Denver Broncos, unless the new interim head coach earns the job in two weeks, will be looking to hire a new coach this offseason.

Several qualified assistants for top teams will be hot targets, but there is one name that will be more interesting to everyone who needs a coach.

Sean Payton has mentioned returning to coaching after a year of retirement and he's so serious that he has evidently put together a staff which includes Vic Fangio.

Those coaches could work wonders with the Broncos, even if Wilson is not the player he once was. At worst, they will be better than they were under Nathaniel Hackett
