In his nine seasons in the National Football League, he surpassed the 1,000 yards rushing mark seven times. While he starred on the football field, there was another passion of his that he spent a lot of time on, and that was acting. In the latter years of his NFL career, he began acting during the offseason. The former running back announced that 1966 would be his final season playing in the NFL, as he would play out the final year of his contract. But, that soon changed. He was in London filming "The Dirty Dozen" and was expected to return to Cleveland in time for training camp. But, due to inclement weather, the shooting days were pushed back and he was set to miss the start of training camp. Team owner Art Modell wasn't happy with that delay and said that he would fine Brown $1,500 each week he missed camp.Instead of returning to Cleveland, Brown announced his retirement from the NFL effective immediately, ending his career earlier than anticipated.
