NFL Rumors: Cowboys invite speedy WR for visit ahead of huge decision in 2023 NFL Draft

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones

The Dallas Cowboys are currently preparing for the upcoming 2023 NFL draft as it's currently less than a month away. The draft is always one of the most important events of every offseason as it provides a significant opportunity for teams to build upon their futures. It's always crucial to analyze positions of need and the best players available in the pool of prospects to optimize draft performances.

While the Cowboys have hosted workouts for many draft prospects during the 2023 NFL offseason, one of their most recent ones jumps out as significant. They could be looking to use one of their high draft picks to get Dak Prescott, an additional help in the passing game after hosting Tennessee Volunteers speedster Jalin Hyatt.

Hyatt put together a strong performance at the 2023 NFL Combine with impressive measurables. He checked in at 6'0" tall and weighing 176 pounds. While his frame is surely on the lighter side, his height and speed make up for it. He has enough length, while running 4.40 seconds in the 40-yard dash, to profile as a legitimate deep threat at the NFL level.

The Cowboys' offense has gone through major changes during the 2023 NFL offseason. Jerry Jones recently fired offensive coordinator Kellen Moore and handed over the play-calling duties in 2023 to head coach Mike McCarthy. They also released Ezekiel Elliot and declined to bring back Dalton Schultz during the free agency period.

The major addition they made was by bringing in another wide receiver in Brandin Cooks, who they acquired via trade with the Houston Texans. He will be paired with CeeDee Lamb and Michael Gallup in an already solid passing game led by Prescott.

The Cowboys' wide receivers are currently a strength on their roster, but their interest in Hyatt in the 2023 NFL draft could improve it even further. Jerry Jones has been no stranger to making splashes on draft day, while often targeting superstar wide receivers in the early rounds.

Most NFL teams implement one of two strategies in the early rounds of each NFL draft. The first is to target players that address significant weaknesses on their current rosters. Another option is to simply draft what the team believes is the best player available, regardless of where the holes on their roster are located. Jerry Jones has been known to use the latter.

The wide receiver position is a perfect example of this with the Cowboys. Jones has invested high draft picks in superstars including Michael Irvin, CeeDee Lamb, and Dez Bryant. All of them were selected in years where most believed the Cowboys had much bigger needs than wide receivers. Just because they have other weaknesses in 2023, doesn't mean he won't be looking for a talent like Jalin Hyatt.
