Pat McAfee livid over NFL’s proposed new rule change-“ABSOLUTE GARBAGE”

Former Indianapolis Colts punter Pat McAfee is not happy with a potential rule change in the NFL.

The NFL is considering a rule change that has many unhappy, including Pat McAfee. The former Indianapolis Colts punter, who was a special teams star, discussed the possible rule change on "The Pat McAfee Show" today. NFL Insider Tom Pelissero first reported the details of the rule change.

The NFL owners are considering a rule that would allow the ball to be placed on the 25-yard line after a fair catch is made on a kickoff. The team owners were expected to vote on the change on Monday but have since pushed it back until Tuesday.

Pelissero also reported that special teams coaches across the league are opposed to the rule. Pat McAfee said that he too is opposed to the change. Saying that it is 'garbage' and 'bush league'.

"This rule is ABSOLUTE GARBAGE"

He said that he has understood and accepted other special team changes that the league has made for safety. But this rule is simply not something that will improve the game at all.

While players and coaches may not be in favor of the new rule change, Pelissero said that the competition committee is. Which could indicate a vote in favor of it coming as soon as tomorrow.

NFL changes rule about inactive QBs

Among the changes that the NFL team owners have passed is one that is actually quite necessary, as seen last season. Each team will now be able to dress a third quarterback without making him active or taking an active-roster spot.

This rule is much needed and would have been beneficial for the San Francisco 49ers last season in the NFC title game. Starting quarterback Brock Purdy was injured, which led Josh Johnson to take over. He was then injured and Purdy then had to re-enter the game despite the elbow injury.

If the San Francisco 49ers had a third quarterback dressed, even if he wasn't active, that quarterback could have played in the game. The third quarterback won't take a roster spot from another player but will simply be ready if he is needed.

The third quarterback also has to be on the roster and not a player that was activated from the practice squad for that game. While there is pushback on the special teams' rule, this new quarterback rule seems to have a lot of support, and will be convenient if an injury occurs.
